sometimes known as the thin.KING.poet. if you were to find yourself in i.james’ apartment, somewhere buried underneath the piles of lyric books, idea sketches, and records, you might find a small chalkboard marked with the words “work. honour. courage. love.” . if you asked, this emcee/poet, singer/songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist might tell you that he scrawled the words in plain white chalk on that slate when he was a much younger man, to remind himself what it was important to embody.somewhere close by you might find another which reads“learn. think. act.”. that one, he would tell you, was meant to re-inforce the first. he would probably explain it by saying “it is one thing to know where you want to go, but you’ve got to know how to get there”. (at which point he would probably laugh at himself for sounding so cliché, and at you for having nothing better to do than rummage through his apartment).
